The 2025 Kai Ora Fund is a partnership between Mahitahi Hauora PHE, The Far North District Council, Kaipara District Council, Te Whatu Ora (Te Tai Tokerau), The Ministry of Social Development, Whangārei District Council, Kāinga Ora, Te Tari Taiwhenua, Foundation North and Healthy Families Far North.

The Kai Ora Fund is a small community grants process to support innovative projects that address food security, benefit the wider community and encourage employment and economic development in the region. We want our communities to have an accessible, affordable and safe food supply for current and future generations, and to be resilient to future disruption or unavailability of food due to various risk factors including droughts, fuel shortages and economic instability.

Eligibility:

  • Projects must be within the specified council boundaries. (Kaipara, Whangārei and Far North).

  • Applicants need New Zealand-based legal status (e.g., incorporated society, charitable trust).

  • Non-legal entities can partner with an ‘umbrella’ organisation.

  • We will prioritise projects that closely fit with the Kai Ora criteria, purpose and values.

  • Projects aligning with Kai Ora’s criteria and values are prioritised.

  • Maximum funding per project is $5,000. Lesser amounts may be applied for.

Requirements:

  • Application must be submitted through the portal by 26/04/2025 12pm

  • All successful projects must send a representative to the Kai Ora workshop in their region and be part of the Kai Ora network.

  • Successful Projects agree to adhere to Kai Ora Fund Contract Requirements.

Key Dates:

  • Applications Open 1 Feb 2025, 9am

  • Applications Close 26 April 2025, 12pm

  • Funding Decision made 15 May 2025
