This week marked World Water Day 2021, the theme for the year is valuing water for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment.

Healthy Families Far North is focused on population health prevention in the environments where we live, learn, work and play, and a key approach for wellness is centred on what we eat and drink

When it comes to water Healthy Families Far North is focusing on supporting schools & kura to promote ‘Water as the First Choice’, especially as our schools/ kura are well positioned to promote sugary drink free environments to improve our children's nutrition, oral health and to help contribute to reducing the risk of being overweight and obese as well reducing diabetes at a population level.

Our kura also have the opportunity to create a culture of healthy drinking and eating where our children are supported to develop lifelong preferences that will help them grow into healthy adults.

So WAI-not become hydro-powered and make ‘water your first Choice’
